From Oxnard’s Heritage Square to Oceanside’s Harbor Days to Temecula’s Balloon & Wine Festival to Indio’s International Tamale Festival and Garden Grove’s Strawberry Festival, Abrakadabra has been bringing its high energy, melodic, percussive and soulful tunes to audiences throughout southern California for years.
Much to the delight of its fans, Abrakadabra’s founding musicians reunited in 2006 and have been bringing dance-loving crowds to their feet at city-sponsored festivals, street fairs, winery concerts and charity events. (Abrakadabra also sponsors a yearly fundraiser for Hermosa Beach’s Peter Zippi Fund for Animals.) Musicians lending their talents to Abrakadabra are: founding members Jon Coleman (guitar, marimba, vibraphone, vocals), Tony Dellomes (keyboards, flute, lead vocals), and new additions Vince Brooks (drums, percussion), Carter Aristei (drums), Humberto Moreno (bass), Tom Lujan (percussion, vocals) and Tom Bray (trumpet, vocals).
In the ‘80’s, Abrakadabra was the house band at Hermosa Beach’s legendary Lighthouse, consistently playing to sold-out crowds. The Group also performed extensively at fairs and festivals, as well as in the area’s popular bars and clubs with groups like Los Lobos and Chicago. Though geographically/musically the Group disbanded in 1986, they still occasionally hung out together to play their uniquely imprinted style of Latin infused jazz.
